VICTOR IS RECOVERING!

on 17 March 2012. Posted in 2012

I want to say “Thank you” for all those who prayed or sent their good wishes to Victor, or who asked about his health. It has a been terrible ordeal for my poor little yellow Lab. He almost died. He is a constant forager for food in any condition when on walks and when off the leash has gotten into some pretty nasty stuff. (Which is why he only went through the first nine steps for becoming a ten-step Guide Dog for the Blind; if he can smell food he pays attention to nothing else.) However, his foraging days are over now. Either something he ate outside or two small rawhide treats I gave him on consecutive days (they were not labeled rawhide, which the Guide Dogs for the Blind people said not to give him) caused him to bleed internally. He is so stoic that it was not until he began for the first time since I have known him to whimper and cry that I realized anything was wrong. Then he crashed. I took him to the vet, who recommended an Emergency clinic. I took him to the one she suggested.

The doctor there didn’t bother to look at his records, but simply suggested the most dangerous operation that could be done on him (and quite incidentally the most expensive procedure). When I asked if he could not accomplish the same thing by simply doing an endoscopy, he had to admit that it would be much safer to start with that first.

Fortunately, I was able to get on the Internet and looked up the reviews of this clinic. I found that many people had given it HORRIBLE reviews, saying that the doctors were irrational and only out for money. Others said, DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! I immediately had Victor transferred to a five-star reviewed Emergency Clinic just a few blocks away Sage Centers for Veterinary and Emergency Care where Victor spent over a week. The doctors at Sage never suggested surgery, but put him on an IV and pushed fluids, antibiotics, and other medications into him. The whole time is a blur. Their staff were incredibly loving and kind and I was allowed to see Victor three times a day for an hour each time. It brought back vivid memories of my mother’s long illness and death, especially as her birthday was March 30. But as always, she stood watch along with all the guardian angels she could muster, and though Victor had a close brush with death, he survived. Today he is back home, although he has twice weekly appointments with the doctors at Sage, and is on seven (7) ! pills a day plus medicinal canned dog food.

He is still anemic, pitifully thin (his ribs show and his collar is far too loose), and has some kind of kidney damage. Even the doctors at Sage aren’t sure what happened to him, but although he is still weak, he gets a little better every day. He can’t run and play or take walks yet, nor can he have any kind of treats: only his medicinal dog food. But soon I hope he will be allowed to do all those things. He was a universal favorite with the staff at Sage, where he wagged his tail and kissed all the nurses and doctors—and where he slept with his head on his stuffed bunny to sleep. I am just so glad to have him safe and well.

I hope you all have had a wonderful Easter weekend. Thank you so much for praying for Victor, sending him good wishes, or inquiring about his health. I can’t imagine life without my little yellow guy.

The last book LJ has written was THE POWER. Books with "Created by L. J. Smith" on the cover has been written by a ghostwriter. Please be aware of it. Also we do not discuss any of the ghostwriter books on this site. Thanks.

Losing a pet is like losing someone close to you. I remembered the time when i brought my old dog who was also bleeding internally in the car, she suddenly just gone as i was about to step into the vet. I still remembered how much i bawled outside the clinic with everyone outside the shop lot staring at me... God bless you Lisa and it's great that Victor's getting well...

Some people on here are so selfish, more interested in when the next book is out than the ordeal Lisa has just been through..
Glad to hear that Victor is getting better. It never gets any easier but they're always worth the pain

LJ Smith,
I am happy your dog is recovering. I fact, today, my dog (a black lab by the name of Cocoa) had to be put down before I went to school. She was twelve and had kidney failure....I am happy that victor is recovering, enjoy every moment you have with him.

Okay, I have a few questions as to "Bamon". I have read a bunch of the books, but I really dont have time to read the rest. So I was wondering, Do Bonnie and Damon fall in love? I am a 100% Bamon fan, and I remember how he called her "my little redbird". I loved that. And I know they have kissed multiple times. So I wanted to know if it really does happen. Also, I was wondering if you had access to the directors of the show. I was hoping you could pitch my idea of having Damon and Bonnie kiss. That would most definitely turn the tables, and set secrets out there. But Damon and Bonnie don't regret it, because they end up loving each other and Elena picks Stefan. So...please just let me know what you think. :) thank you so much for writing these books and I hope you soon get back to me on this subject. It's very important. Thx again. :)

Lisa isn't allowed to write any more Vampire Diaries after Midnight. I read Midnight and I think there was hope for Damon and Bonnie to fall in love. I'm a Bamon fan too! However, they had not fallen in love yet. There are more books, but they are written by a ghostwriter. I don't know or care what happens in them. Discussing any of the ghostwritten books is forbidden on this site.

As for the show, Lisa doesn't get any say in what happens in it. They are not even following what she has already written in her books. The books are way better than the the show, in my opinion.

Have you read any of Lisa's other books? I recommend you try the Night World series when you get some time. Those are my favorites. They have several types of supernaturals like witches, vampires, and shapeshifters. There are also lots of bad boys that will remind you of Damon.

Thank you for replying. That really is a shame that Lisa can't have a say. I mean, she is the one who wrote the books in the first place! Anyway, I'm glad atleast that there is hope for Damon and Bonnie. I don't know if I will get to read other books because I am usually really busy. But I still hope that their will be Bamon in the show too. I liked both the books and the show though. Except I know that Damon and Bonnie have a thing for each other in the books. I just hope it happens in the show as well!! I would die of happiness if they fell in love! Haha.
Well, thx again for replying. :)

I'm sorry to hear about victor but I'm glad he is recovering well. I have two pit bulls..rescued one who was supposed to be the "easy" dog but one day he decided to eat a towel. (No idea how he found it or how it was in our fenced back yard) but he was terribly sick and I had no idea what was wrong. Neither did he vet...so cha-ching there. Finally we had to do exploratory surgery..found the towel. It was splitting his pancreas and his intestines were accordioned around it. Luckily he is recovering and he is getting meat back on his ribs and hips. He looked like the dog from the mask. Fat head and little body :) thank God they are both recovering well :)
